# How to Get an SMS Gateway (SMPP or API)

To get an SMS gateway, sign up with a licensed SMS aggregator, complete DLT registration (mandatory for sending to Indian numbers), get your Sender ID and message templates approved, and then connect either via a simple HTTP API (for low-to-medium volume, quick integration) or an SMPP bind (for high-throughput, persistent-connection use cases). Most providers, including SMSGatewayCenter, offer both, so you can start with the API and move to SMPP if your volume or latency needs grow.

**Typical steps:**

1. Register an account and complete KYC/DLT registration.
2. Get your Sender ID and message templates DLT-approved.
3. Choose your connection type: HTTP/REST API or SMPP bind.
4. For SMPP: request bind credentials (system ID, password, host, port) and configure your SMPP client with the correct bind type (transmitter, receiver, or transceiver).
5. Test with a small batch, confirm delivery reports, then scale up.
