# What does OPERATOR_DOWN (Operator Unreachable) mean?

The **operator or gateway was unreachable** when your message was sent - for example the operator's system was down or not responding. Your message could not be delivered at that time.

**What you can do:** Retry sending later. If this persists for a long time, contact support; the issue may be on the operator or route side.
