# What happens if the same number exists in multiple groups?

The system automatically handles duplicates to prevent sending the same message multiple times.

**Automatic Duplicate Handling:**

When you select multiple groups for a campaign:

1. System collects all contacts from selected groups
2. Identifies duplicate mobile numbers
3. Removes duplicates (keeps only one entry per number)
4. Sends one message per unique number

**Example:**

**Group A: Premium Customers**

- John: 9876543210
- Sarah: 9876543211

**Group B: Newsletter Subscribers**

- John: 9876543210 (duplicate)
- Mike: 9876543212

**Result:**

- Only 3 messages sent: John, Sarah, Mike
- John receives only ONE message (not two)
- Credits charged for 3 messages only

**Personalization with Duplicates:**

If using {{NAME}} placeholder:

- System uses the first occurrence found
- If John appears in both groups, uses name from first group processed
- Recommendation: Keep contact information consistent across groups

**Additional Duplicate Filtering:**

There's also a **"Filter Duplicates"** setting:

- Enabled by default
- Removes duplicates within batch numbers
- Works alongside automatic group deduplication

**Best Practices:**

1. **Don't worry about duplicates** - System handles it automatically
2. **Verify contact names** - Ensure names are consistent across groups
3. **Check reports** - Total recipients count shows final deduplicated count
4. **Keep groups organized** - Though duplicates are handled, clean data is better
