How do I use variables to personalise RCS templates?

Variables let one approved template carry different values for each recipient, such as a name, an OTP, an order number or an amount.

Adding variables to a template #

1. In the template form, place your cursor where the value should go.
2. Click + Add Var and pick a variable, for example [name], [otp], [orderid], [amount], [date] or [tracking_id]. You can also insert numbered custom fields such as [custom_param_1], [custom_param_2].
3. Variables work in text messages, card titles, card descriptions, suggestion text, postbacks and URLs.

Filling variables when sending #

• Quick and Group send: after you select the template, the Send RCS screen shows one input per variable (Variable 1, Variable 2 and so on). Enter the values and check the live preview.
• Custom file upload: for each variable, choose the column in your uploaded file that holds its value, so every recipient gets their own values.
• API: pass the values as customParams. See Can I send RCS messages through the API?

Tip: keep variable values short and within the field’s character limits. A long value can make the message fail validation.
