SMPP is used wherever an application needs to send or receive SMS at scale with low latency and full control over delivery status, including:
- Transactional and OTP messaging for banks, fintechs, and e-commerce platforms
- Bulk marketing and promotional campaigns sent through DLT-approved templates
- Two-way messaging for surveys, keyword-based opt-ins, and customer support
- Aggregator-to-aggregator and carrier interconnects, where SMS traffic is exchanged between networks
- Enterprise systems (ERPs, CRMs, core banking platforms) that need a direct, persistent connection rather than repeated API calls
If your application sends more than a few thousand messages a day, needs sub-second latency, or requires two-way SMS handling, SMPP is usually a better fit than a simple HTTP API.
